Autobiography

Hello!
My name is Skylar McLeod, Im 21 and I was born in a small reserve in upper central Saskatchewan and i'm of Cree heritage. Currently I live with my father and aunt in a small town near Calgary Alberta, Canada; i've got a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix named Juno and two cats named Toby and Maisy.
When I was 4 years old my siblings and I were put into foster care after my mother was deemed unfit to care for us, and it was my dad who stepped up and took me in despite previously being unaware he had a daughter. I was brought up as a hard worker by a man who did everything he could to make sure I had what I needed when it came to whatever I wanted to do at the time. We went from living in a bedroom pink house on a reserve with rotting wood when i was 4, to now a duplex in a small country town outside the major city of Calgary.Despite the trials of our rocky father/daughter relationship, and our shared yearning for a mother; he always did his best to support me. It took until the 21st year of my life to realise I was the only person in a family of 7 kids with a present father. Because I live a 12 hour drive from my home town where the rest of my family is, I often find myself struggling with isolation and a deep seated sadness I have lived with my entire life due to having grown up outside of the family I should have shared memories with. I do my best to make friends where i am and reach out to my family every now and then, but sometimes it feels as if the distance is too much sometimes between myself and the rest of the world.I try to keep my chin up and remind myself of the immense priviledge I was born with, being of native-status with a loving dad, lucky enough to have avoided the grasp of drugs and alcohol in a free country that is not involved in war. My father spent his entire lfe entertaining crowds as a lead singer in different bands, so with all this combined I constantly have a cloud of obligation over my head to make something of myself, as i have a passionate creative ability and i understand the set of cards i've been delt are ones few can say they have.Nowadays I have been exploring various mediums, those of which have taught me many things. I’ve always had a studio corner set up wherever I’ve been, and it’s contents shifted in and out of storage based on that years endeavour. The mediums I have most experience in are Digital Illustration, Jewelry Making, Aquatic Ecosystems, Writing, Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Oil Painting.Im finding it hard to wrap this up in a cheerful way since im still unsure of my life's tragectory, so I'll keep it real and admit im still unsure. I just know i want to use my creativity to make a difference. Anyways, I have doubts anyone is gonna read this far, as its a bit gloomy, but I tried to keep the grade 12 essay format I learned in my english class and I hope you like it. <3 whoever you are.

Below you can view the pieces I’m most proud of, as well as my Instagram, and Ko-Fi if you would like to support me.Thank you for visiting my page, I love you all.
